About Barry

Barry V. Lester is a Washington, DC-based art professional with over 30 years of experience in the arts and culture industry. Lester's career has been dedicated to promoting African American and contemporary art and artists, and he has served as a curator, gallerist, and consultant throughout his career.

Lester began his career as a picture framer in the late 1980s, eventually transitioning to curating and gallerist work. For 22 years, he owned and operated the Attitude Exact gallery in the Eastern Market neighborhood of Washington, DC, which quickly became known for its unique mix of contemporary and African American art. Lester also founded The B Spot Artbar, which was a popular gathering place for the local creative community.

As an art consultant, Lester has worked with a wide range of clients, including private collectors, corporations, and government agencies. His extensive knowledge of the art world and his passion for promoting artists of color has made him a sought-after consultant for those looking to build their art collections or curate exhibitions.

Lester currently operates as BV Lester Design, offering art consulting and design services to clients.  Throughout his career, Lester has been committed to promoting African American artists and expanding the reach of contemporary art. His work has been instrumental in elevating the profiles of many talented artists, and he has served as a mentor and advisor to many up-and-coming creatives.

Lester's contributions to the arts and culture industry have been widely recognized. In 2016, he was honored with the DC Mayor's Art Award for Excellence in Service to the Arts, and he has been featured in numerous publications and media outlets, including The Washington Post and The Huffington Post.
